The Year 6 students of Agora Lledó International School, under the guidance of their teacher, Ms Sarah Barahona, have embarked on an extraordinary educational project: the construction of a boat made entirely out of cardboard, named “Triton”. This ambitious project, which combines creativity, sustainability, and teamwork, culminated in an exciting launch party at the Oropesa del Mar Yacht Club last Friday 14th June.
The initiative, supported by Blue Education, not only involved building a vessel but also promoted essential values such as teamwork, companionship, and sustainability. Thanks to Blue Education, the students had access to all the necessary resources, from the boat plans to video tutorials, allowing the young minds to unleash their creativity in decorating the boat.
During the launch, the “Triton” made 13 trips with groups of four students each, navigating and competing to see which team achieved the fastest time. This event was not only a physical and technical challenge but also a celebration of joint effort and practical learning beyond the classroom.
Ms Sarah Barahona, along with the Year 6 tutors, played a crucial role in guiding and motivating the students, ensuring that each one of them gave their best in this unique experience. The involvement of nautical experts was also fundamental, providing advice and building a bridge of knowledge between generations.
The Triton cardboard boat project symbolises the vision of the sea as an inexhaustible source of personal and professional growth. Through this experience, the students not only learned about art, technology, science, and mathematics but also discovered the importance of reusing materials and caring for our planet.
The educational community at Agora Lledó eagerly anticipates the next school year and the new edition of this inspiring project. Imagine what new challenges and learnings the future will bring!
We look forward to seeing next year’s boat and continuing to foster a love for the sea, creativity, and teamwork in our young students. Well done, Year 6 students, and a special thanks to Ms Sarah Barahona for her dedication and leadership!
