A strong contingent of 51 students and 2 teachers participated in the regional round of WSC-2024, held at Kathmandu.

The event which spanned 3 days from the 4th to the 6th february, was attended by more than 1100 students from various schools of Kathmandu valley.  Learners from Swostishree were scheduled to appear on the the last 2 days i.e. Monday and Tuesday, during the event. They represented grades 6 through 9.

Despite the programming running for almost 12 hours on each day, the excitement, enthusiasm as well as patience shown by the participants was admirable. For some, especially the learners of grades 6 and 7, it was their debut competition and even then it was a refreshing experience to see them prepare in a really organized way for the debate and writing tasks.

One of the learners, Aayudh from grade 7 said, “It was sad that our team lost all three debates but we will learn a lot from this experience. … The global alpacas were so big and intimidating. … The quiz was hard.” Another learner from grade 7, Sufi, said that it was a nice experience overall. “I met so many amazing people and my old friends. We got top 3 in the scholar’s bowl, which was amazing. And although there was some chaos during lunch and medal distribution, I was more than happy to get my red alpaca and I have found a cool place for it at my home. It is looking happy in a pink bow and paper glasses”, she added.

Sworup from grade 7 had an interesting experience to share. “I lost my alpaca, so I requested a friend to give me one as he had won an extra in a competition. He was kind enough, and now I have one”, he said.

All in all it was a wonderful experience for all the learners which was evident in their smiles. We are sure everyone is already looking forward to the global rounds.
