A gesture that crosses borders: the school uniforms that travelled from our classrooms to Malawi

International Schools Association

More than a year ago, on 22 January 2025, a solidarity initiative began that brought together students, teachers, families and organisations with one shared goal: to give old school uniforms a second life and deliver them to schools in Malawi.

Thanks to the collaboration with Vest for Africa, we launched a uniform collection campaign that quickly became a community project filled with commitment, enthusiasm and teamwork. What for many students marked the end of one school stage became, for other children, a meaningful opportunity and valuable support in their daily lives.

The initiative involved weeks of organisation, sorting and packing to ensure that every item arrived in perfect condition. Behind each box were hours of dedication, coordination and hard work from the entire school community.

Today, those uniforms have finally reached Malawi.

The photos and videos we have received show far more than a charitable delivery: they reflect smiles, excitement and the genuine happiness of the children who received the uniforms. A small gesture from our classrooms that has had a huge impact on the other side of the world.

Our friends at Teaching Hearts Malawi were there to receive the donations and personally hand them over to the local school communities, becoming an essential bridge between both countries.

This initiative would not have been possible without the involvement of the entire school community and the support of institutions such as Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera and Agora Lledó International School, as well as all the families, students and collaborators who took part in the campaign.

Beyond the uniforms themselves, this project has highlighted the importance of solidarity, sustainability and education as powerful tools capable of connecting very different realities. Because when a community comes together to help others, borders disappear.
