Happy World Poetry Day 2022 FROM BELGRANO
Poetry has the power to capture the “creative spirit” of humanity
In order to celebrate World Poetry Day, our Middle School students from Belgrano’s venue have participated in a reading and writing poetry experience organized by Literature teachers throughout the whole week.
The aim of this celebration was to show how poetry reaffirms our “common humanity”, as it reveals that human beings share the same questions and feelings all over the world. It is through poetry that very deep and complex ideas can be expressed in such precise but inspiring ways, creating an instant for self-reflection and retrospection. Poetry has the power to capture the “creative spirit” of humanity and it is undoubtedly one of the most precious ways to express cultural and linguistic identity.
In order to instill a love for reading poetry, our Middle School students took part in a wide range of initiatives, which were aimed at bringing the essence of poetry closer to the students, while contributing to the development of students’ language in its most poetic form of expression.
Our 4th year senior students, for example, shared a Literature class with Junior 7 students and assisted them in the creation of their own poems in groups, based on some audio-visual material and the novel the students were currently reading. Our 2nd year students visited a Junior 5 class and became their Literature teachers for one afternoon by reciting, reading and acting out fun poems, and finally helping the juniors create their own poems based on stimuli presented to them.
