On September 21st (Ashwin 5), Kathmandu: Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School, in collaboration with member schools of the International School Association, hosted the Swostishree Road Race 2024 with slogan Run for Peace ( #Raceforpeace ) to mark International Peace Day. The main objective of the event was to raise funds for war victims, specifically children who have been impacted by conflicts. The proceeds from the event in Nepal will be directed toward supporting these victimized children. Additionally, students contributed stationery and toys for charity as part of the initiative.
The competition was held in two groups for boys and girls under 16, with participants from grades 6 & 7, 8 & 9, and 10 & 11. A 3-kilometer distance was set for both boys and girls.
In the boys’ category for grades 6 & 7, Sameer Thakur from Model School secured first place, followed by Saurabh Magarati from Chandragiri Taekwondo Dojang in second place, and Sangam Thapa, Saurabh Malla Thakuri, and Arjun Sapkota from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
In the boys’ 8 & 9 category, Hasta Sunar from Bright Horizon Children’s Home took first place, followed by Pranav Bhattarai from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School, Pemba Chhiring Tamang from Himalaya Waldorf School, Samrat K.C. from Imperial World School, and Hridaya Bikram Thapa, who secured second to fifth places, respectively.
In the boys’ 9 & 10 group, Kamran Sharma, Sonam Chhiring Gurung, Aarohan Karmacharya, Riwaz K.C., and Alex Maharjan from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School placed first to fifth, respectively.
In the girls’ category for grades 6 & 7, Janice Bobal from Chandragiri Taekwondo Dojang won first place, followed by Sejal Roka from Model School, Avashna Khadka and Krishu Lokhdri from New Diamond School, and Garima Rawat from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School in second to fifth places, respectively.
In the girls’ 8 & 9 group, Raskila Himdong from Chandragiri Taekwondo Dojang came first, followed by Ayu Khatri from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School, Dolma Tamang from Himalaya Waldorf School, and Suzyana Thapa and Vaya Sapkota from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School in second to fifth places, respectively.
In the girls’ 9 & 10 group, Sushma Thapa from Bright Horizon Children’s Home won first place, followed by Salina Dhami from Mangalodaya School, and Jeshika Rayamajhi, Ivana Shrestha, and Shuvaana Manandhar from Swostishree Gurukul I.B. World School in second to fifth places, respectively.
Special guests, including Olympian and former marathon runner Mr. Baikuntha Manandhar, Ward Chairperson of Nagarjun Municipality Ward No. 2, Mr. Thumraj K.C., former marathon runner Mr. Sahadev Byanjankar, and School Managing Director Ms.Mina Maharjan, awarded medals, trophies, and certificates to the top five winners in each group.
Olympian Mr. Baikuntha Manandhar was also honored.
The Road Race For World Peace was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister Madhu Kumar Shrestha of the Bagmati Province Government.
Around 200 student-athletes from various schools and institutions participated in the event, contributing to a noble cause for war-affected children.
