SAVE THE EARTH – Kabir Sahani
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it “Today I am afraid to go out in the sun, because of the holes in our ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air, because I don’t know what chemicals are in it. I used to go fishing with my dad, until just a few years ago we found there was no fish, and now we hear of plants and animals going extinct every day. In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the herd of wild animals, the jungles and the rainforests full of birds. But now, I wonder if they’ll even exist for the coming generation to see. Today oceans are acidic, glaciers are melting, flood and tsunamis are occurring, and all this is happening before our eyes, and yet we act as if we have all the solutions for the climate change. Moreover, now we have to act, to reverse the impact of climate change. We ought to do something! It is the conservation of biodiversity. Through conserving biodiversity, we will be fixing up these problems slowly as we know, “Slow and Steady Wins the Race”. We shall protect plants, animals and not let them die. The world is becoming a fireball. The increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, such as CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere are causing the planet’s climate system to retain more energy. The average temperature of the Earth’s surface has increased by an estimated 0.7°C, since the beginning of the 20th century. According to the most recent projections of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (Body of UN), the temperature of the earth could rise by 1.6–4.3°C compared to a 1900 baseline by 2100.Why is this happening, why is the world becoming a fireball?
