In a ceremony filled with pride, reflection and anticipation for the future, Agora Sant Cugat International Schoolofficially inaugurated its new Alzina Baccalaureate Building on Wednesday 19th November. The event brought together a distinguished gathering of leaders in education, local government and the school community to celebrate the continued growth and innovation of one of the region’s most prestigious schools.
Among the honoured guests were Josep Maria Vallès i Navarro, the Mayor of Sant Cugat del Vallès, local government officials, Lorenzo Fiorani, the CEO of Globeducate, and senior representatives and School Directors from the Agora International Schools network. Former and current teachers, students, alumni and families were also present, all united in their shared commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.
The newly inaugurated Alzina Building, named after the Catalan word for “holm oak” – a symbol of strength, growth and rootedness – is dedicated to students pursuing the National and International Baccalaureate programmes. The modern facility features state-of-the-art classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, multi-functional areas and a cafeteria; all designed to support innovation, creativity and critical thinking.
The Ceremony began with music from the School Band and the building plaque was revealed by Jordi Ros, the School’s Director, and Josep Maria Vallès i Navarro, the Mayor of Sant Cugat. A highlight of the event was the planting of an “Alzina” or holm-oak tree and with Primary 1 and 2 students burying a Time Capsule they had made and which they will dig up in 10 years’ time when they are in Baccalaureate!
The building was then officially opened by the cutting of a ribbon and guided tours of the building followed to give guests a glimpse into the vibrant learning environment that now welcomes the next generation of students.
Speeches were presented in the new library and Lorenzo Fiorani, the Globeducate CEO,made an address to speak about the visionbehind the expansion,
“The Alzina Building reflects our shared ambition to provide students with the best possible environment to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow. We are proud to invest in facilities that foster curiosity, leadership and global citizenship. An important step in Agora Sant Cugat International School is always an important step for Globeducate.”
Josep Maria Vallès, the Mayor of Sant Cugat del Vallès, praised the School’s enduring influence in the local and international community,
“Today is a historic day for the Agora Sant Cugat Campus and for Sant Cugat with the opening of this innovative pre-university building. We recognise that the seed of Globeducate started right here in the centre of Sant Cugat with the opening of Agora Patufet Infant School over 50 years ago and we are immensely proud that the Agora Sant Cugat Campus plays an important part of our city’s identity.”
The School Director, Jordi Ros, highlighted the deeper meaning behind the new Alzina Building during his inauguration speech,
“Infrastructure must be an ally of pedagogy and, above all, of the people who bring it to life each day. Every corner has been designed to foster collaboration, critical thinking and autonomy. On our Campus, architecture and education come together to create experiences that inspire and reflect our vision of learning as a living, dynamic process, connected to the world inside and outside the classroom.”
A reception was then hosted in the new building’s cafeteria, which allowed guests to connect and reflect on the significance of the occasion.
The inauguration of the Alzina Baccalaureate Building stands as a proud milestone in the history of Agora Sant Cugat International School – a reaffirmation of its mission to nurture responsible, compassionate and globally minded leaders
