Hour of Code at Ivy!

International Schools Association

The Ivy School ->

What do you get when you cross 60 primary students, a coding team, and an opportunity to save the ocean? The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, using fun tutorials to show that anybody can learn the basics. The vision behind this is that every student in school should have the opportunity to learn computer science and computer programming as core parts of the curriculum. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.  We celebrated our very first Hour of Code this week and had an amazing time! 11 teams got to show us their fantastic coding skills as they tried to clean up a coral reef with some savvy Scratch moves. They moved on later to a more ‘design and innovation’ task as they crafted holders for their Bots. The selected teams then played against each other as they drove the Bots through a collect-and-drop challenge.  A very exciting day indeed. Our saplings are already looking forward to participating in the next Hour of Code!
