Competence-based MYP
From the late Sir Ken Robinson to the World Economic Forum, Peter Diamandis, and UNESCO, they all agree on the importance of personalised attention, skill development, and learning to solve real-world problems.
The objective of this program is the development of key competences defined by the International Bureau of Education (UNESCO). The content in CIS Global is not organized according to traditional subjects, but also integrates a varied set of curricular contributions grouped into modules. Our purpose was to make education for adolescents relevant again. Our objective, to create a programme built on four pillars:
- the broad competences defined by UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education (IBE),
- emphasis on the use of exponential technologies.
- the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework,
- the own years of experience in personalised Education.
There are some, scarce initiatives to adopt a competence-based approach. There are also advancements in embedding technologies in education. And there are an increasing number of IBMYP schools. Our strategy was to put competences first, to focus very heavily on the students’ creative use of varied technologies and to deploy it all along the MYP guidelines, in an unprecedented approach.
We redesigned the educational offer, we included components from the innovation and startup world and we focused it on attaining some specific good for the student, the community of the planet.
As a result, from one group, 12 students in 2020-21 there will be three groups, 60 students in 2021-22. The programme has been offered to students starting grades 6, 7 and 8 and it will keep expanding in the following years.
