Students of Swostishree Gurukul from MYP IV, Grade 11, and Grade 12 recently carried out impactful community service programs in various parts of Nepal, turning classroom learning into real-life experiences. These initiatives highlight how community service is at the heart of IB learning, nurturing empathy, social responsibility, and essential life skills.
MYP Year IV students embarked on a 6-day Life Skills and Community Service trip to Syangja and Pokhara as part of their MYP journey and the Duke of Edinburgh International Award community project. They engaged in teaching, storytelling, awareness programs, village visits, hands-on activities, and donated stationery and sports items to local students. These experiences strengthened their ATL skills and IB learner profile attributes, including being caring, balanced, and reflective.
Grade 11 students contributed to community development in Bardibas at Shree Janata Aadharbhut Vidyalaya. They planted a pocket forest, supported the public school, and enhanced their life skills by managing daily responsibilities such as buying vegetables and cooking meals.
Grade 12 students visited Dolakha–Charikot, studying the impacts of climate change in Kuri Village, exploring the cultural and religious heritage of Kinhchok and Dolakha Bhimsen, and supporting the establishment of a library at Bhim Uchha Ma. Vi., Charikot.
Together, these initiatives reflect Swostishree Gurukul’s commitment to learning beyond the classroom. By linking academics with real-world experiences, students gain environmental awareness, practical life skills, empathy, and a strong sense of social responsibility—truly demonstrating that community service is the essence of IB learning.
