Entre los días 14 y 16 de marzo se celebró la XXVI Sesión Nacional del Modelo de Parlamento Europeo (MEP), un encuentro de alto nivel académico en el que el alumnado asume el papel de eurodiputados para debatir los grandes retos de nuestro tiempo. En esta edición, el Colegio Internacional Casa Azul estuvo representado por su alumno Rafael Domínguez Silva, quien participó tras obtener un brillante segundo puesto en la fase autonómica.
A lo largo de este intenso fin de semana, los estudiantes trabajaron en comisiones junto a compañeros de distintos puntos del país, abordando cuestiones clave para el presente y futuro de la Unión Europea. Temas como el acceso a la vivienda, la gestión de los recursos hídricos, el rearme en Europa o la regulación de la inteligencia artificial centraron los debates, exigiendo a los participantes un profundo análisis, rigor argumentativo y una visión crítica de la realidad.
El MEP ofrece una experiencia educativa única en la que el aprendizaje trasciende el aula. El alumnado no solo investiga y elabora resoluciones, sino que también las defiende en una asamblea plenaria ante más de 70 participantes. En este entorno, deben argumentar, negociar, plantear enmiendas y responder a cuestiones planteadas por otras comisiones, desarrollando así competencias esenciales como la comunicación efectiva, la oratoria, la capacidad de persuasión y la escucha activa.
Además, este tipo de iniciativas potencian habilidades clave como el pensamiento crítico, la toma de decisiones, el trabajo colaborativo y la gestión de la presión en contextos exigentes. Al mismo tiempo, fomentan valores fundamentales como el respeto, la responsabilidad y el compromiso cívico, preparando a los estudiantes para ejercer una ciudadanía activa, informada y consciente.
Participar en el Modelo de Parlamento Europeo supone, en definitiva, una inmersión real en los procesos democráticos, donde el alumnado aprende a dialogar, consensuar y construir soluciones desde la diversidad de ideas. Una experiencia que, como apuntaría Immanuel Kant, encarna el verdadero espíritu de la Ilustración: el desarrollo del pensamiento autónomo y crítico.

Casa Azul International School at the Model European Parliament: leadership, critical thinking and active citizenship
The 26th National Session of the Model European Parliament (MEP) took place between 14 and 16 March. This high-level academic event sees students take on the role of MEPs to debate the major challenges of our time. At this year’s event, the Casa Azul International School was represented by its student Rafael Domínguez Silva, who took part after securing an impressive second place in the regional round.
Throughout this intense weekend, the students worked in committees alongside peers from different parts of the country, addressing key issues for the present and future of the European Union. Topics such as access to housing, water resource management, rearmament in Europe and the regulation of artificial intelligence were at the centre of the debates, requiring participants to demonstrate in-depth analysis, rigorous argumentation and a critical view of reality.
The MEP offers a unique educational experience in which learning extends beyond the classroom. Students not only research and draft resolutions, but also defend them in a plenary session before more than 70 participants. In this setting, they must argue, negotiate, propose amendments and respond to questions raised by other committees, thereby developing essential skills such as effective communication, public speaking, persuasion and active listening.
Furthermore, such initiatives foster key skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, collaborative work and managing pressure in demanding situations. At the same time, they foster fundamental values such as respect, responsibility and civic engagement, preparing students to exercise active, informed and conscious citizenship.
Participating in the Model European Parliament ultimately involves a real immersion in democratic processes, where students learn to engage in dialogue, reach consensus and build solutions from a diversity of ideas. An experience which, as Immanuel Kant might say, embodies the true spirit of the Enlightenment: the development of independent and critical thinking.
