Agora Sant Cugat International School is very much a new generation of international schools with its community made up of both national and international students from all over the world. In recognition of the large Chinese community in the School, we felt it only right that the Chinese New Year was celebrated together with activities for students and their families.
The main aim was to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among students from diverse backgrounds and, by participating in the festivities, be able to learn more about Chinese traditions, values and customs and foster a sense of respect and understanding for different cultures.
Everyone was invited to come to school on Wednesday 29th January 2025 wearing something red, a symbol of good luck and prosperity, and many children dressed up in typical Chinese clothes for the New Year celebrations. During the day, students learnt about the significance of the holiday, such as the zodiac, customs, and the importance of family and togetherness.
The whole school community was then invited to the afternoon activities. Our Chinese students and their families were able to share their traditions and celebrations including colourful decorations, traditional music, dance performances and delicious food with traditional Chinese Dragon and Lion Dances. It was a fabulous way for us to show how we value and respect all cultures to promote inclusivity and acceptance and it sent a positive message that everyone’s traditions are important and worthy of celebration.
By celebrating the Chinese New Year with the whole community, we were able to honour a rich cultural tradition and strengthen the bonds within the School, making it a more welcoming and vibrant place for everyone!
