Raise awareness of the United Nation’s role in the promotion of peace.
Engage and discover the value of the artistic and linguistic cultural heritage of different countries and their key role in building a peaceful society.
Explore how interpersonal relationships among different educational stages. can promote peace and the positive resolution of small everyday conflicts, improving coexistence and being key to a just and peaceful society.
The origin of the United Nations sits on the Treaty of Versailles, which was one of the treaties to formally end World War I. The treaty was signed in Versailles, France, on June 28, 1919. It aimed to encourage disarmament, prevent outbreaks of war, encourage negotiations and diplomatic measures to settle international disputes and to improve the quality of life around the world. However, the outbreak of World War II suggested that the League of Nations needed to take on a different form.
The ideas around the United Nations were developed in the last years of World War II. The UN was officially created when a UN charter was ratified on October 24 that year. United Nations Day was first observed on October 24, 1948.
Currently, there are a total of 193 countries in the UN.
It is important to highlight that the UN emblem consists of a projection of the globe centred on the North Pole. The projection is surrounded by images of olive branches, representing peace.
This event is aligned with the key idea of peace the UN represents and fosters as an international institution. It also pivots around the idea that a deep knowledge of our Cultural Heritage and the promotion of positive interpersonal relationships are also crucial for peace to find its way.
Main Events
Infant, Primary and Secondary students will make a mural replicating a work of art from one of their local artists representing peace consisting of 40 A3 size tesserae that will be painted by each of the classes of each stage using different artistic techniques.
This mural will be hung in an act of celebration on the afternoon of the 17th of October, in an event coordinated by the school’s United Nations Model student group, or other student groups/clubs, in which all the tesserae of the mural will be assembled, and messages and drawings also created by the students will be hung from one of the school’s main trees. A video of the hole process and the event will be recorded and edited. Schools are encouraged to share their videos on the ISA Projects page.
Members from the Host Schools (Ausiàs March and Stockbridge) MUN student group, or other student groups/clubs, and 2 students representing each stage (Infants, Primary and Secondary) will make a live connection to present the video and exchange their vision of Peace and the United Nations, exchange experiences and share the collective murals created by the three schools.
All the classes of each school will also watch the mural video on the 24th
Additional activities to introduce and promote the event:

2. Secondary will create drawings or write messages of peace, which will be hung from one of the school’s representative trees.
At least some idea of Human Rights across the world and a little bit of rhetorical/persuasive devices (not essential like the prior research).
