Summary
Since 1992 the UN members have been celebrating the International Day of Persons with disabilities, which means that this issue has been of particular concern. On 3 December, schools are invited to participate in the event which promotes the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life. The NIKA students are happy to share their experience of volunteering at several centres and homes for children and adults with disabilities, as well as provide participants with workshops on different topics. There are two ways you can join our event. You can use the example of the workshop to carry it out at your school. Moreover, you can watch the examples of the workshops, create your own videos based on this or your previous experience and send them to us. Your active participation is welcome. We strongly believe that sharing experience will help break the limits and make this world a happier place for everyone.

Topics
We cover such topics as:
Sports
Through sport, persons with disabilities acquire vital social skills, develop independence, and become empowered to act as agents of change. Sport teaches individuals how to communicate effectively as well as the significance of teamwork and cooperation and respect for others. These workshops were designed for persons with disabilities by our volunteers’ and represent our experience of doing simple workouts and physical activities to improve their mental health.
Art
Art is a significant source of expression for persons with disabilities. This integrative and creative therapy has numerous benefits that include building self-esteem, enhancing communication, growing social skills, and more. With art therapy, individuals with disabilities have an outlet to explore their creativity, discover new passions, and boost their self-confidence. These workshops were designed for persons with disabilities by our volunteers’ and represent our experience of doing simple works of art to improve their mental health.
Theatre
It is important for disabled people to have community participation. It serves as a space where they can be fully themselves and connect with one another. It gives them a chance to form beautiful friendships. Hence, they can successfully resolve issues like social isolation and loneliness. Moreover, it gives them a chance to develop important social skills that can help them in many ways in life. Performing arts can also have many significant mental health benefits. It can give a sense of freedom and spaciousness, and learn to feel more comfortable and appreciated. These workshops were designed for persons with disabilities by our volunteers’ and represent our experience of preparing theatrical performances to improve their mental health.
Science
Involving students with different disabilities in STEM learning is of particular importance and usefulness because we should not deprive them of opportunities to engage in STEM fields in the future and acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to face the challenges ahead. These workshops were designed for persons with disabilities by our volunteers’ and represent our experience of including students with disabilities in different scientific projects and interacting with the environment to improve their mental health.
