En el Colegio Internacional Casa Azul hemos celebrado con gran éxito la 5ª edición de nuestro Concurso Interno de Debate, una iniciativa ya consolidada dentro del Proyecto de Dialéctica de Debate y Oratoria del centro. En esta ocasión, el alumnado se enfrentó a un tema de plena actualidad y relevancia social:
“¿Cumple el feminismo un papel esencial en nuestra sociedad actual?”
Siguiendo un modelo académico de debate, los estudiantes prepararon con rigor tanto la postura a favor como en contra del tópico propuesto. La asignación de la posición a defender se realizó por sorteo el mismo día del encuentro, lo que exigió a los participantes un profundo conocimiento del tema, así como una gran capacidad de adaptación y pensamiento crítico.
Más allá del contenido, esta experiencia se convierte en un potente escenario de aprendizaje competencial. A través del debate, el alumnado desarrolla habilidades clave como la argumentación estructurada, la comunicación oral efectiva y la escucha activa. Asimismo, se fomenta el respeto por la diversidad de opiniones, la empatía intelectual y la capacidad de analizar realidades complejas desde múltiples perspectivas.
El concurso también potencia destrezas, como la seguridad en uno mismo, la gestión de la presión y el trabajo en equipo, al tiempo que refuerza valores esenciales como el respeto, la tolerancia y el compromiso cívico.
Como novedad en esta edición, los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato, ganadores de la convocatoria anterior, han asumido el rol de jurado. Su participación en la evaluación del alumnado de 4º de ESO no solo ha enriquecido el proceso, sino que también ha promovido el liderazgo, la responsabilidad y el aprendizaje entre iguales, consolidando una cultura de colaboración dentro del centro.
El equipo ganador tendrá ahora la oportunidad de representar al colegio en un concurso de debate externo junto a alumnado de otros centros, llevando consigo no solo su talento argumentativo, sino también un conjunto de habilidades personales y sociales que trascienden el aula.
Iniciativas como esta reflejan el compromiso del Colegio Internacional Casa Azul con una educación integral, en la que el conocimiento académico se complementa con el desarrollo de competencias que preparan al alumnado para participar de manera activa, crítica y responsable en la sociedad.
Thinking, arguing and listening: debate as a driver of learning at Casa Azul
At Casa Azul International School, we have successfully held the 5th edition of our Internal Debate Competition, an initiative that is now firmly established within the school’s Debate and Public Speaking Programme. On this occasion, the students tackled a highly topical issue of social relevance:
“Does feminism play an essential role in today’s society?”
Following an academic debate format, the students thoroughly prepared both the arguments for and against the proposed topic. The positions to be defended were allocated by drawing lots on the day of the event, which required participants to have a thorough understanding of the subject, as well as strong adaptability and critical thinking skills.
Beyond the content, this experience becomes a powerful setting for skills-based learning. Through debate, students develop key skills such as structured argumentation, effective oral communication and active listening. It also fosters respect for diversity of opinion, intellectual empathy and the ability to analyse complex realities from multiple perspectives.
The competition also enhances skills such as self-confidence, coping with pressure and teamwork, whilst reinforcing essential values such as respect, tolerance and civic engagement.

As a new feature this year, Year 16 students, the winners of the previous competition, took on the role of judges. Their involvement in assessing the Year 10 students not only enriched the process but also fostered leadership, responsibility and peer learning, strengthening a culture of collaboration within the school.
The winning team will now have the opportunity to represent the school in an external debate competition alongside students from other schools, bringing with them not only their debating skills but also a range of personal and social skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Initiatives such as this reflect the commitment of the Casa Azul International School to a holistic education, in which academic knowledge is complemented by the development of skills that prepare students to participate actively, critically and responsibly in society.
