From February 23 to 27, Swostishree Gurukul was transformed into a bustling hub of literary discovery. Our PYP Reader’s Workshop, “Pages to Portals: Everybook is a Doorway”, was a resounding success, proving that reading is far from a quiet, solitary act—it is a vibrant, shared adventure!
A New “Flavor” Every Day
Throughout the week, students engaged with books in ways they never had before. Whether they were sampling new genres at our “Book Tasting” event, diving into stories by the glow of a flashlight, or hunting for “fancy” words to add to their vocabulary, the excitement was palpable. We saw classrooms turn into fortresses of imagination and playgrounds become stages for character reenactments.
Inspiration from the Experts
One of the highlights of the week was our lineup of guest speakers. We were honored to host authors, artists, and community leaders who shared their personal stories about storytelling. These sessions allowed our students to see the “human side” of books, demonstrating that every page is an opportunity for a creator to express their unique perspective.
Fostering Student Agency
At its heart, this workshop was about Student Agency. Students took charge of their reading journeys, choosing books that sparked their curiosity and reflecting on how stories help us understand the world around us.
The Final Chapter
The week concluded with our grand Literature Gala, where students celebrated their growth as readers and thinkers. While the workshop has officially ended, the “buzz” in the library and the hallways tells us that for many of our students, the real reading adventure is just beginning.
